Building Background through Vocabulary Development


In this clip, the Arabic teacher shows how to introduce new Arabic words to intermediate-low learners of Arabic in order to build background for a listening activity. He frequently uses wh-questions and yes/no questions to review previous vocabulary. Based on students’ responses, he tries to activate class discussion and provide more new vocabulary items. His use of recast as feedback and gestures to facilitate vocabulary learning is also noteworthy in this video.
